Neil Young

Γεννήθηκε στις 12 Νοεμβρίου 1945 στο Τορόντο του Καναδά. Με τη συμμετοχή του σε δύο σημαντικά rock συγκροτήματα (Buffalo Springfield και Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young ή CSNY), καθώς και με τα προσωπικά του άλμπουμ, ο Neil Young παρουσίασε στη μακρά καριέρα του πολλές διαφορετικές μουσικές προσωπικότητες, κρατώντας ωστόσο σταθερές αξίες, όπως τα κιθαριστικά ξεσπάσματα, τα χίπι ιδανικά και οι folk μελωδίες. Στους Buffalo Springfield κυριαρχούσε η τραγουδοποιία του Stephen Stills, αλλά ο Young ερμήνευσε ο ίδιος τις συνθέσεις του "I Am A Child" και "Mr. Soul". Το πρώτο σόλο άλμπουμ του κυκλοφόρησε το 1969 και περιλάμβανε το "The Loner". Για το δεύτερο, το "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere", κάλεσε ως συνοδευτικό γκρουπ τους Καλιφορνέζους Crazy Horse - μια δυναμική, έντονη ηχητική υποστήριξη. Το άλμπουμ περιείχε τα κλασικά "Cinnamon Girl", "Down By The River" και "Cowgirl In The Sand". Έγινε μέλος των CSNY, οι οποίοι εμφανίστηκαν και στο Woodstock, ενώ αργότερα έγραψε το "Helpless" για το άλμπουμ τους "Deja vu" του 1970. Στη διάρκεια της δεκαετίας του '80 η μουσική του περιπλανήθηκε στιλιστικά μεταξύ του hard rock ("Re-ac-tor", [1981]), του ηλεκτρονικού rock ("Trans" [1983]), του rockabilly ("Everybody's Rockin'" [1983]), της country ("Old Ways" [1985]) και των blues ("This Note's For You" [1988]). Κατά την επόμενη δεκαετία αναγνωρίστηκε ως πατριάρχης του grunge ύφους, ηχογραφώντας μάλιστα μαζί με τους Pearl Jam το "Mirror Ball" (1995).
